Lee Westwood will aim to follow in the footsteps of South African Ernie Els next month when he attempts to win The Barclays Scottish Open for the second time.
To date, Westwood's International Sports Management stablemate is the only player in history to have triumphed twice at Loch Lomond – in 2000 and 2003 – and the Englishman will be looking to serve up his own second success from July 8-11 to sit alongside his initial triumph in 1998.
"Such is the beauty of Loch Lomond that you can enjoy the walk even on the days when things aren't going your way," said the Englishman. "It's a course which tests every club in the bag and one I look forward to playing on long before it's reached on the schedule."
Westwood's triumph 12 years ago was his fifth European Tour success, an eight under par total of 276 following rounds of 69-69-68-70 giving him a four shot winning margin over an eclectic quartet in second place, Australia's Robert Allenby, Sweden's Dennis Edlund, England's David Howell and Eduardo Romero of Argentina, who of course went on to claim the title himself four years later in 2002.
Since then Westwood has gone on to win 15 more European Tour events on his way to a current career high of third on the Official World Golf Ranking.
Two of those victories came near the end of last season when his triumph in the Portugal Masters in October was followed by a stunning victory in the Dubai World Championship which helped him win the inaugural Race to Dubai with record season earnings of €4,237,762.
While he has yet to add to his European Tour title haul in 2010, Westwood continued to cement his reputation as one of the top players in the world with his second victory on the US PGA Tour earlier this month.
After tying with fellow European Tour Member Robert Karlsson and American Robert Garrigus on ten under par 270 in the St Jude Classic at the TPC Southwind, Westwood went on to claim the title with a birdie three on the fourth extra hole.
