Tiger Woods commits to The Barclays at The Ridgewood Country Club

Paramus, N.J. – Tournament officials announced today that Tiger Woods has committed to The Barclays, the first of four events in the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup, at The Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, N.J., August 24-29.

The top 100 players following The Barclays will advance to the next event in the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup, the Deutsche Bank Championship. Woods is currently ranked No. 108 in the FedExCup, and this puts him in an unfamiliar situation of having to finish approximately 50th or better at The Barclays to move on.

"We are thrilled to have Tiger Woods, the defending FedExCup Champion, join the field in what should be one of the most exciting events in The Barclays history," said Executive Director Peter Mele. "The field this year will be full of great stories. From the success of international players on TOUR this year, to the success of young players like Hunter Mahan, Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson and Anthony Kim, to Ernie Els' efforts to remain at the top of the FedExCup standings, golf fans will enjoy the best the PGA TOUR has to offer."

This year will mark the first time Woods has competed in The Barclays at The Ridgewood Country Club after he was forced to miss the 2008 event while recovering from knee surgery. He finished T2 last year at Liberty National, one-stroke behind Heath Slocum.

Tickets to The Barclays 2010 can be purchased by visiting www.thebarclaysgolf.com and can also be purchased in the pro shop at Paramus Golf Club.

The PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup culminate with the FedExCup Champion crowned at THE TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola, Sept. 23-26.

Vijay Singh, who won The Barclays the last time it was contested at Ridgewood in 2008, will also feel somewhat like the defending champion. Singh outlasted Sergio Garcia and Kevin Sutherland in a dramatic playoff and went on to claim the FedExCup. Singh has also assured himself of a return trip to Ridgewood at No. 61 in the FedExCup Standings.

Ernie Els remains atop the FedExCup points list followed by Steve Stricker, Jim Furyk, Phil Mickelson and Justin Rose. The top five players in the standings entering THE TOUR Championship are guaranteed to win the FedExCup if they are victorious in Atlanta.

About The Barclays

The Barclays has been a part of the PGA TOUR schedule since 1967 when Jack Nicklaus won the inaugural event at Westchester Country Club. Since that time, some of the greatest players in the game have earned the title including World Golf Hall of Famers Arnold Palmer, Johnny Miller, Raymond Floyd, Seve Ballesteros, Hale Irwin, Curtis Strange and the new defending champion, Heath Slocum, 2009 winner of The Barclays. Many of the world's current top players have won the event as well, including two-time champions Ernie Els and Sergio Garcia, and four-time champion Vijay Singh. As the first of four playoff events, The Barclays plays a leading role in the FedExCup, the season-long competition that is the centerpiece of the PGA TOUR season. In 2010, The Barclays will be held at Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus New Jersey, on August 24-29.
