PGA TOUR Wives Association rolls out the green carpet for charity at The Barclays
Paramus, N.J. – PGA TOUR wives will host a fundraiser the week of The Barclays to raise money for the PGA TOUR Wives Association, a 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to render support and provide assistance to needy children and their families through the means of charitable events, and Children's Aid and Family Services, a Northern New Jersey-based organization. Motivated by compassion for vulnerable children, young adults, frail elderly and their families, Children's Aid and Family Services preserves, protects and, when needed, provides families.
This is one of many charitable functions during The Barclays, which takes place at The Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, N.J., August 24-29. The Barclays, the first event in the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup, will again feature the top 125 players on the FedExCup points list following the PGA TOUR's 37-event Regular Season.
"A Green Carpet Affair," presented by Sentient Jet, is scheduled for Tuesday, August 24, from 6:30–9:30 p.m. at a private home in Saddle River, N.J., and activities will include a putting contest with PGA TOUR professionals, a silent auction, as well as special food and drink options. The PGA TOUR Wives Association expects approximately 30 PGA TOUR players from The Barclays field to attend.
Organizers are hoping to attract 300-350 attendees to the event, with tickets priced at $275 each. Tickets for A Green Carpet Affair are available online at www.cafsnj.org.
"This will be a very special event that will show the true heart of the PGA TOUR players, the PGA TOUR Wives Association and everyone involved in the evening," said The Barclays Executive Director Peter Mele. "Children's Aid and Family Services is a special organization that has helped so many in the Paramus community. They are one of many charities that will benefit from proceeds at The Barclays. Many thanks to the PGA TOUR Wives Association for stepping up to help Children's Aid."
PGA TOUR Wives Association, Inc., is a Florida not-for-profit corporation organized in 1988 by wives of professional golfers on the PGA TOUR. The Association has raised millions of dollars for charity and has given much back to the game of golf through volunteer projects performed for and monetary contributions made to charities in communities where PGA TOUR and Nationwide Tour tournaments are held. About The Barclays
The Barclays has been a part of the PGA TOUR schedule since 1967 when Jack Nicklaus won the inaugural event at Westchester Country Club. Since that time, some of the greatest players in the game have earned the title including World Golf Hall of Famers Arnold Palmer, Johnny Miller, Raymond Floyd, Seve Ballesteros, Hale Irwin, Curtis Strange and the new defending champion, Heath Slocum, 2009 winner of The Barclays. Many of the world's current top players have won the event as well, including two-time champions Ernie Els and Sergio Garcia, and four-time champion Vijay Singh. As the first of four playoff events, The Barclays plays a leading role in the FedExCup, the season-long competition that is the centerpiece of the PGA TOUR season. In 2010, The Barclays will be held at Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus New Jersey, on August 24-29.
