Youth being served on the PGA TOUR with The Barclays on the horizon

Paramus, N.J. – An onslaught of players in their 20s have won on the PGA TOUR in 2010 as the opening tournament to the PGA TOUR Playoffs – The Barclays – is set to tee off in a little more than a month at The Ridgewood Country Club for The Barclays, August 24-29.

Justin Rose captured his second victory of the 2010 season with a win at the AT&T National. Rose, 29, recorded the 11th win by a player in his 20s on the PGA TOUR this year, compared to seven in all of 2009. Rose is ranked No. 3 in the FedExCup standings.

Other winners in their 20s include the following players:

Player FedExCup rank
Anthony Kim 8th
Dustin Johnson 9th
Camilo Villegas 13th
Bill Haas 19th
Hunter Mahan 23rd
Jason Day 24th
Adam Scott 28th
Rory McIlroy 39th
Derek Lamely 74th

Also playing well, but yet to record a victory is 21-year-old rookie Rickie Fowler who has recorded five top-10 finishes and two runner ups. With his strong play, Fowler ranks 15th in the FedExCup standings.

Bill Haas joined his father (Jay) as a winner of the Bob Hope Classic, the eighth father-son combo to win a PGA TOUR event. Dustin Johnson won the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am for the second consecutive year. With the win, Johnson became the first player since Tiger Woods to win in his first three seasons on TOUR.

Hunter Mahan shot 65-65 for the weekend to win the Waste Management Phoenix Open and was the only player in the field to go bogey-free over the final 36 holes. Camilo Villegas recorded his third career PGA TOUR victory at The Honda Classic.

Derek Lamely won the Puerto Rico Open presented by Banco Popular. Anthony Kim (Shell Houston Open), Rory McIlroy (Quail Hollow Championship), Adam Scott (Valero Texas Open) and Jason Day (HP Byron Nelson Championship) round out the remaining victors in their 20s.

"The group of young golfers in their 20s on TOUR is deep with talent and great enthusiasm," said The Barclays Executive Director Peter Mele. "Fans should expect to see some of the best young players in the world when they come to Ridgewood Country Club for The Barclays."

The Barclays returns to Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, N.J., after a one-year visit to Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, N.J., in 2009. Steve Stricker won The Barclays in 2007 during the first year of the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup. Vijay Singh claimed The Barclays in 2008, outlasting Sergio Garcia in a playoff, while Heath Slocum edged four of the game's biggest names, Tiger Woods, Ernie Els, Steve Stricker and Padraig Harrington, to capture The Barclays by one stroke last year at Liberty National.

About The Barclays

The Barclays has been a part of the PGA TOUR schedule since 1967 when Jack Nicklaus won the inaugural event at Westchester Country Club. Since that time, some of the greatest players in the game have earned the title including World Golf Hall of Famers Arnold Palmer, Johnny Miller, Raymond Floyd, Seve Ballesteros, Hale Irwin, Curtis Strange and the new defending champion, Heath Slocum, 2009 winner of The Barclays. Many of the world's current top players have won the event as well, including two-time champions Ernie Els and Sergio Garcia, and four-time champion Vijay Singh. As the first of four playoff events, The Barclays plays a leading role in the FedExCup, the season-long competition that is the centerpiece of the PGA TOUR season. In 2010, The Barclays will be held at Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus New Jersey, on August 24-29.
